Drones take art to the sky but weather stops Friday show November 14, 2025
The early extra show was staged on Thursday evening before the originally planned show on Friday (November 14) because of expected high demand and as organisers looked towards the Friday forecast. Ultimately the original show date had to be cancelled on Friday afternoon because of the high winds and rain.
The event "Painting The Sky" took the work of Bradford-born artist David Hockney out of his gallery in Saltaire and into the air in a 600-drone light show created by Leeds-based Skymagic as part of Bradford City of Culture 2025 events.
The flight of drones recreated some of Hockney's classic works in the free display lasting around 10 minutes.
The Thursday night show attracted many hundreds of visitors despite the late announcement that it would be taking place.
