Bank Holiday as funeral of Queen Elizabeth II takes place
September 19, 2022
Some public services and businesses are closed or have a bank holiday level of service as millions watch the funeral broadcast from Westminster Abbey.
Commemorative services have been held at York Minster, including a City of York civic service on Sunday evening. Further services take place on the day of the funeral. Outside the service times, the Book of Condolence at the Minster is open for a final day from 9.30am until 7.30pm.
Councils across Yorkshire have also had Books of Condolence open at their town halls or civic centres. Books of Condolence have also been available online. The period of National Mourning since Her Late Majesty's death continues until the end of this day of the state funeral.
The Queen was born in 1926 as the first child of the then Duke and Duchess of York, who became King George VI and Queen Elizabeth when she was 10. The Queen's title was Princess Elizabeth of York before becoming the monarch upon her father's death 70 years ago in 1952.
The Queen died at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire on September 8, 2022.
Ceremonies of proclamation of the new Monarch, King Charles III, have been held at town halls across the region.
