Consultation on upgrade plans October 22, 2024

Electrification of Uppermill Viaduct is included in this section of the plansConsultation on another section of the Trans-Pennine railway upgrade plan continues until this Friday (October 25).

The consultation, which has been running since September 16, concerns the stretch of line between Stalybridge and Diggle. The area of Greater Manchester includes a few miles of line in historic Yorkshire through Friezland, Greenfield, Uppermill and Diggle.

The plans include relocating Mossley station, improvements at Greenfield station and work on bridges, tunnels and crossings to allow electrification of the line.

Work on the electrification has already taken place between Manchester and Stalybridge and between Church Fenton and York.

Work has been ongoing for over two years between Huddersfield and Leeds. Ministerial approval has recently been given for work between Leeds and Micklefield.
