New road opens in east Leeds August 22, 2022

A new dual carriageway road providing a new outer orbital route in a green corridor in east Leeds has been opened, paving the way to the development of up to 5,000 new homes.

The 4.7-mile-long East Leeds Orbital Route links the existing outer ring road in north-east Leeds to junction 46 of the M1 motorway to the east of the city.

The road, including five new roundabouts, has been financed through the West Yorkshire Combined Authority Transport Fund using money from a £1bn investment in the government's Leeds City Region Growth Deal. Landscaping schemes along the road will continue until December.

The road will ease congestion in the areas which have become built-up around the present outer ring road and is put to the test straight away as it eases traffic flow to the Leeds Festival at Bramham Park on the August Bank holiday weekend.
