Springwood includes a conservation area of streets of Victorian terraced houses, some retaining their original stone setts, also Huddersfield's new leisure centre and areas of public pay and display car parking.

A dominant feature of the area are the twin air vents of the Springwood railway tunnel which passes beneath the area.

While the area is mostly made up of housing there are also a number of tradesmen's premises in the area, including a glazing company and garage.
