Marsden Moor

 Map view

The Marsden Moor Estate is a vast and beautiful expanse of moorland extending north of the Peak District National Park which is managed by The National Trust. It surrounds the village of Marsden, about six miles south west of Huddersfield town centre.

The estate of more than 5,500 acres contains a number of unenclosed moors which are crossed by more than 100 miles of footpaths, historic transport routes across the Pennines and some wild walking terrain. The Pennine Way long distance hike between Derbyshire and Scotland crosses the estate, which is also the catchment area above Yorkshire Water's reservoirs which provide water supplies to the Huddersfield area.

Highlights of the estate include the pack horse bridge at Eastergate; the Wessenden Valley; the rocky outcrops at Buckstones, which is also a popular venue for paragliding and hang-gliding; and Pule Hill, where there are rock climbing routes and one of the stones of the Stanza Stones poetry trail featuring poems created by Marsden poet Simon Armitage.
