TransPennine Express hourly stopping trains run between Huddersfield and Leeds calling at all the above stations.

The pattern of stopping services in the June to December 2024 is mostly unchanged from the previous timetable after changes last December providing more direct journeys to some destinations as fewer services are terminated at Huddersfield, where work is continuing on station improvements during 2024.

In addition to services providing all-stops between Huddersfield and Leeds, the June to December 2024 timetables include two fast trains each hour to or from Leeds during weekday daytime, these stopping only at Dewsbury. There are additional express trains at peak times.

The daytime stopping service between Huddersfield and Leeds is now mainly provided by a Manchester Piccadilly to Hull train, operating as an express to Huddersfield, then becoming the stopping service to Leeds, then continuing its journey to Hull.

However, at peak times trains from Hull towards Manchester Piccadilly will generally operate non-stop between Leeds and Huddersfield and station stops will be provided by a Leeds to Manchester Piccadilly all-stops service (that service running non-stop in the opposite direction between Huddersfield and Leeds at peak times). A Leeds to Manchester Piccadilly all-stops service will provide service in both directions in the evening.

The express trains calling at Dewsbury are mostly on Manchester Airport to Saltburn and Liverpool to Newcastle routes.

Between the direct stopping trains from Huddersfield, there is the possibility, with an appropriate ticket, of reaching Mirfield, Batley and Morley stations by changing at Dewsbury from TransPennine Express to Northern Calder Valley line trains. Cottingley can be reached between direct trains by travelling express to Leeds then back to Cottingley.

The June to December timetables has replacement bus services covering late evening services to stations between Huddersfield and Leeds. That includes what is normally a late train home from Huddersfield or Leeds to Deighton, Mirfield, Ravensthorpe, Dewsbury, Batley, Morley and Cottingley. Travellers should note that bus stops for stations along this route can be a walk of up to half a mile from the station. Note also that bus replacement is not clearly shown in some versions of the new timetable other than through a much-increased journey time of 1 hour 14 minutes for the full Leeds-Huddersfield stopping service. One, possibly diverting, express train each way just before midnight does have additional stops at Mirfield and Deighton.

Through the duration of the timetable there are expected to be periods of further bus replacements, diversions and timetable alterations due to ongoing work on the TransPennine Route Upgrade. This includes the first two weekends (June 1-2 and June 8-9) when Huddersfield station will be closed. See link below for further details on the TransPennine Route Upgrade website and check your journey on the day through journey planners such as that at National Rail.

PLEASE NOTE: This travel study is provided for basic guidance and indicates the general daytime pattern of Monday to Saturday trains. We recommend checking your route on journey planners before travelling, particularly in the evening and on Sundays or when services are disrupted by engineering work or strikes.
